Introducing our neighbours: Café Marlayne

December 9, 2011 Posted in: Blog

Our beautiful New Town neighbourhood is usually the first area of the city centre guests set off to explore once they have arrived here at The Walton in Edinburgh.

In the centre of the New Town, tucked away in a little side street parallel to George Street is a little treasure of a restaurant we recommend you visit during your time in Edinburgh. Café Marlayne is a French bistro located at 76 Thistle Street, only a ten-minute walk from the guesthouse. You’ll find the restaurant is on your way from The Walton to the area around Princes Street (with its Christmas Markets!) and the Old Town. A dinner here is a perfect start to your evening out in Edinburgh – or a lovely end to a day filled with sightseeing explorations!

The bistro restaurant is a wee place with cosy atmosphere and exceptional food, which provides great value for money. The menu changes regularly and the dishes are contemporary as well as creative – our current favourite can be found on the dinner menu as a starter: it’s the Boudin Noir (a French version of what we know as Black Pudding) with King Scallops. We find they always use fresh produce, and the staff offer relaxed but attentive service with a smile!

Take a closer look at Café Marlayne’s current menus and also at the picture gallery of the restaurant – both can be found on its website.

If you would like to have lunch or dinner at Café Marlayne during your stay at The Walton, please speak to us.  A member of staff at reception will be more than happy to book a table for you!
