How-to: celebrate Hogmanay 2012/2013

December 28, 2012 Posted in: Blog

Booked your stay for Hogmanay but not sure yet where to go? May we give you an insider’s tip to get yourself in the mood for New Year’s Eve? On 30th December Edinburgh kicks off Hogmanay 2012 with a Torchlight Procession (starting at 6.30pm) leading you from Parliament Square in the Old Town to Calton Hill, where you’ll be able to watch the first firework of this year’s Hogmanay season!

Taking part in the procession is free, and you won’t need a ticket either. However, if you’d like to buy your own torch to carry, please make sure you pre-book one on www.edinburghshogmanay.com to avoid disappointment!

On the 31st there are many things you can do to celebrate the passing of 2012 into 2013. There’s the Candlelit Concert at St Giles’ Cathedral, the Hogmanay Street Party in the City Cnetre and the Concert in the Princess Street Gardens and off course the Keilidh in the Mound Precinct. One of our personal reccomendations is the Hogmanay party at Summerhall.

If you are looking for an active start of the New Year we can recommend taking a fresh dip in the Firth of Forth; The traditional Loony Dook in South Queensferry or the New Years Day Triathlon that will take place in the Commonwealth pool and around Arthurs’ Seat.

For more information on events don’t forget to check our events calendar!

We hope you enjoy your stay here in Edinburgh and have a sparkling Hogmanay!
